It’s truly the end of an era. After a decade and a half of chaotic FPS fun, the PS3 version of Team Fortress 2 has bit the dust. Fly high, buddy.
Despite its age, Team Fortress 2 is a game that feels like it’ll never die. At the time of writing, data from Steam Charts shows that 90,289 players have been online in the last 40 minutes, and over the last 24 hours, the game saw a peak concurrent player count of 101,464. Just to put it into perspective, the stats for Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 (which released less than five months ago) state that 48,482 people have been playing in the last 40 minutes - the game’s peak concurrent player count over the last 24 hours was 88,886. Maybe that says more about the decline of Warzone 2.0’s player base than anything, though.
TF2 developers Valve recently revealed Counter-Strike 2 - an upcoming upgrade for CS:GO. Take a look at the trailer below.
As Push Square reports, over on Reddit, fans have been saying goodbye to the game: “You were my first go at the game, little did I know you’d be the first steps into a new paradigm of my life. you'll be missed my friend,” Alphyhere wrote. “What a sad day. So many great childhood memories on this port of the game, I’m gonna miss going back and playing it for some nostalgia,” commented ColeyBoii. “It's enough to make a grown man cry,” Severe-Stomach added.

It’s been a full week of sad losses for the gaming community. On Monday (27 March), the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops finally closed - it’s no longer possible to purchase new games or DLC, and as a result, loads of digital-only titles have vanished forever. It’s now way harder to experience the first and second generation Pokémon games if you didn’t buy the 3DS Virtual Console versions ahead of the shutdown - we can only hope that Nintendo will eventually add them to the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Back to TF2 though, and thankfully the Xbox One version of the game hasn't been affected at all. Obviously, the PC version is still fully functional, too.
