Can Baldur’s Gate 3 do any wrong? Since it launched on 3 August, the game has amassed a loyal following, helping it to become the tenth highest-rated game on Metacritic.
We’re not talking highest-rated for this month or even year – this is tenth of all time. That’s quite the accolade to have, though, in truth, should we even be surprised?
Enjoy this beautiful Baldur's Gate 3 trailer.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has already beat Zelda to become 2023’s best-rated game, without its PlayStation release. Not to mention its first major update promises a gigantic list of changes to further enhance gamers’ experience. All in all, this game isn’t letting up that epic energy for one second, and we are here for it!

So, if Baldur’s Gate 3 is ranked tenth on Metacritic’s all time list, what titles have managed to beat it? There’s a lot of classic titles in the top nine, ranging from the late 1990s to the 2010s, meaning there’s a wide array of contemporary and retro games getting a whole lotta love from fans.
I doubt it’ll surprise anyone to see The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in first place; this is one of my personal favorites, though I’d argue Wind Waker is better. Don’t disagree, you all know I’m right.
Coming in hot at number two is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, followed by GTA 4. All amazing titles for varying reasons, and definitely worthy of such elite positioning in this list. As you move further down the list, you’ll find more recent titles (we say recent, but it’s been 13 years) like Red Dead Redemption.
This is another game I have a soft spot for, though I’m choosing to ignore the questionable “commercially accurate” price of its PS port so I can remember the heady days when it was first released. Filled with twists and turns, especially the ending, RDR is undoubtedly iconic and worthy of its eighth ranking.

Beating Baldur’s Gate 3 by barely anything at all is GTA 5. We say barely because, if you look at the expanded stats on Metacritic, you’ll notice that both games have a 97 Metascore. You’ll also notice that GTA 5 actually has a lower user score at 7.9 to BG 3’s 9.1.
You might wonder why BG 3 isn’t ranked higher, and rightly so. We suspect it has something to do with how many users have rated both of the games; arguably, GTA 5 will have more reviews simply because more gamers have played it. However, once BG 3 comes out on PlayStation, these two rankings could change.
If you want to delve into the magical world of Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s available to play on PC now and will be released on PS on 6 September.
