Assassin's Creed: Witch Hunt turns series into full-blown horror

Assassin's Creed: Witch Hunt turns series into full-blown horror

Son of a witch

The Assassin's Creed series has had some pretty scary moments over the last 15 years, but it's never really been known for its focus on horror. That's all about to change.

It's a really interesting time to be an Assassin's Creed fans, with a bunch of confirmed projects that should see us through the next decade at least. There's an argument to be made that knowing about all of these games so far ahead of time kind of spoils the surprise, but that's a debate for another day.

Take a look at Assassin's Creed Jade in action below!

As I'm sure you know, Ubisoft has decided it's time to really triple down on the popular franchise. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is mere weeks away, and takes us back to the series' stealth roots. Soon after that there's an RPG set in Ancient China, then a hugely anticipated Assassin’s Creed set in Japan. But for my money, the most interesting new project is Assassin's Creed Hexe, a game all about witch trials.

Very little is known about Assassin's Creed Hexe at this time, save for the fact it will almost certainly feature a female protagonist. But if you were wondering what a full-on horror Assassin's Creed game might look like in the meantime, YouTuber Enfant Terrible has delivered.

This fan-made teaser for Assassin's Creed: Witch Hunt sees an Assassin wandering through the remains of a burned village, tasked with uncovering an ancient tomb. If I have but one complaint about this otherwise excellent, atmospheric trailer, it's that the protagonist is a dude.

Still, you can see the trailer for yourself below. It's amazing work.

I'm sure Ubisoft isn't reading this, but if Assassin's Creed Hexe tries to give us a game about witch trials and the persecution of thousands of innocent females and doesn't give us the option to play as a woman? Well, that would be a horrible mistake.
