Assassin’s Creed is a much loved franchise, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t entries that split opinion.
In fact, there are plenty of them. In particular, Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Odyssey tend to come under fire for their lengthy campaigns and humongous maps. These RPGs really took the franchise away from its more concise roots. That’s arguably why there’s so much hype surrounding Assassin’s Creed Mirage. It’s set to be a return to the stealth genre, centering around Valhalla’s Basim. It mercifully features the franchise’s smallest map in years, and fans are happy to hear it. In fact, next year’s Codename Red is due to be the last RPG entry in the series. Fans are in agreement that Valhalla is a very strong RPG, but a bad Assassin’s Creed game - and I’m sure Odyssey ticks similar boxes.
Take a look at the trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage below.
Fans of the franchise took to Reddit to discuss their feelings about Valhalla. “Best of the RPG series imo. So many things to do, unlike Odyssey or Origins,” mastermentor575 wrote, while theHanning added, “I think how much you like it will depend on what you’re looking for from the game. It’s very big, and can take a long time to complete, but personally I loved it.” Kiftiyur wrote, “I enjoyed it a lot. It’s definitely my favourite RPG AC out of the three.”

As enjoyable as many found Valhalla to be though, they agreed that it strayed a little too heavily from the AC formula. “Separated from hype and expectation, it's pretty great and better than most games out there. Leaves a lot to be desired as an AC game but I think we've come to terms with that now,” AgitatedQuit3760 diplomatically argued.
As mentioned, Codename Red is set to be the final RPG entry. The game will be set in Feudal Japan and is rumoured to star both a shinobi and a samurai. Consider me intrigued.
