Finally, the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is on the horizon and fans of the stealthy Ubisoft series will be looking forward to assassinating the Templars in feudal Japan.
Previously known as Assassin’s Creed Red, set during the Sengoku period, Ubisoft officially revealed Assassin’s Creed Shadows with an epic cinematic trailer that confirmed its two playable protagonists, Naoe, a female shinobi and Yasuke, an African samurai loosely based on a historical figure.

“Live the intertwined stories of Naoe, an adept shinobi Assassin from Iga Province, and Yasuke, the powerful African samurai of historical legend,” reads the description of the game from Ubisoft. “Against the backdrop of the turbulent late Sengoku period, this remarkable duo will discover their common destiny as they usher in a new era for Japan.”

Ubisoft is known to offer exclusive content with certain editions and I’ve never been a fan of quests being locked behind a particular paywall, however, this pre-order bonus is at least less egregious. For those that pre-order Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a game recently accused of being “woke”, you will be gifted with the exclusive ‘Thrown to the Dogs’ quest.
Not much is known about this quest at the time of writing but we do know that it will involve helping a dog avenge his fallen master, so it sounds interesting at least. If previous Assassin’s Creed pre-order quests are anything to go by, this will likely be around an hour or so long (give or take).
Hopefully, in the coming weeks, we’ll see Assassin’s Creed Shadows in action with some meaty gameplay and with a bit of luck, that gameplay will arrive during Summer Game Fest next month.

It’s worth noting that this quest is free to all those who pre-order Assassin’s Creed Shadows, regardless of the edition. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on 15 November 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
