The original Assassin's Creed is an incredibly important video game, given that it kicked off one of the biggest franchises of all time, but it hasn't exactly aged brilliantly.
That's not too surprising, given Assassin's Creed came out way back in 2007. But with how far video games have come over the last decade or so, we'd love to see what Ubisoft could do with Altair's story now.
Take a look at Assassin's Creed Mirage in action below!
Unfortunately there don't seem to be any plans for an Assassin's Creed remake or remaster. The upcoming Assassin's Creed Mirage looks set to fill that role, giving us a brand-new story that captures the tone and spirit of the original game.

While I'm more than happy to see a new game rather than another remake, it's a curious decision, given the rumours of an Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake. I know I'd rather have a Black Flag spiritual successor or a sequel, and a straight-up remake of Assassin's Creed if given the choice.
Alas, that choice is not ours to make. The good news is that a modder has been hard at work creating an unofficial Assassin's Creed remaster that allows newcomers and veterans a chance to play a polished up version of the 2007 classic.
Assassin's Creed Remastered (Community Edition) is essentially a compilation of all the best Assassin's Creed mods, assembled in one package to create the closest possible thing to a full-on remaster. Expect better lighting, overhauled textures, and an all-round slicker experience.
If you've never played the original game before and want the best possible experience on a modern PC, this mod could well be your best bet. At least until Ubisoft inevitably caves in 2027 and does a 20th anniversary remake for PlayStation 6 and Xbox Box Box or whatever Microsoft ends up calling it.
