Assassin's Creed Mirage fans agree the map is just the right size

Assassin's Creed Mirage fans agree the map is the perfect size, compared to recent entries.

With a few days since the launch of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, fans are coming together to share their thoughts on Ubisoft’s latest instalment to the long-running series. Despite mixed reviews, fans can agree on one thing, which is that the game features a map that is just the right size.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is already being hailed as “a welcome return to form” and “the best game since Syndicate” and with the latest instalment in the Assassin’s Creed series returning to its roots, it’s clear Ubisoft wanted to pay attention to the game’s map. Set in ninth century Baghdad, in the city of Anbar, the map is already being praised for its use of space. With the most recent Assassin’s Creed games such as Valhalla and Odyssey being set on maps of epic scale, it’s a nice return to form to see the story events taking place in a small city again.

AC Mirage’s map size is perfect,” said one fan on r/assassinscreed. “The map isn't really that small. Baghdad has a lot going on, with its diverse districts offering plenty of ways to explore buildings, and the city itself is vibrant and bustling. Not to mention the outer villages and the wilderness areas.”

In our very own Assassin’s Creed Mirage review, we spoke about the map’s size. “Speaking of the world, Assassin’s Creed Mirage thankfully boasts a significantly smaller map than the last few entries”, Sam Cawley wrote. “There’s still a decent amount of ground to cover, but it won’t take you nearly as long if you’re travelling by foot or riding a mount.”

With the latest instalment bringing the game’s focus back to its stealth and parkour aspects, it makes sense for its setting to mainly take place in a built-up city. “I love Mirage's map size and how dense it feels between buildings,” said another Reddit user. “I would like to see them continue this formula of AC, but refine the parkour a bit more and give us something as smooth as Unity.”
