Oh my, it is a good time to be an Assassin’s Creed fan. It’s full steam ahead on the franchise over at Ubisoft with a number of different AC projects in the works. We’re mere days away from getting an in-depth glance at several of these at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward on 12 June. In the meantime though, the developer has dropped a small teaser granting us a quick glance at Codename Jade.
As I’m sure you’re aware, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is officially the next instalment in the franchise to be released. Set in ninth century Baghdad, the game will feature Valhalla’s Basim, and thanks to the recent PlayStation Showcase, we’ve already got our first glimpse at the stealth-focused gameplay. Ubisoft are returning to annual Assassin’s Creed releases so we know that Codename Red, Codename Jade and Codename Hexe are all on the way. Today, it’s Codename Jade that we have a fresh update for.
Take a look at Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s gameplay in action below.
To date, we know very little about Codename Jade. In the initial reveal trailer released last year, it was announced that the game would be set in Ancient China. Other than that, we simply saw an eagle swooping over a large settlement. In case you missed it, it’s also worth bearing in mind that Codename Jade is set to be a mobile release and won’t be available on consoles. Still, it sounds like a hugely exciting project and thanks to a recent tweet, we can finally see the title’s main character in action.
The tweet is teasing the upcoming Ubisoft Forward where we’ll find out more about the game but in the meantime, the accompanying image shows, presumably, the main assassin in the game flanked by an army of soldier statues. Intriguing. There’s the famous Terracotta Army - a collection of sculptures from the same time period as the game is set, created by Qin Shi Huang to be buried with him as a way to protect him in the afterlife. Perhaps this links with what we see in the Codename Jade teaser.
