The world of Assassin’s Creed will soon be expanding into mobile devices once more and the latest looks to be its biggest and maybe best release yet.
Developed by Level Infinite, Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade takes the series to 215 BCE during the Qin Dynasty China era. From what we’ve seen so far in the recent trailer, this looks to be as a fully-fledged Assassin’s Creed game as we’re going to get on mobile. In truth, it’s looking pretty good. Hopefully, when it releases, it will play as well as it looks and won’t be overly insistent on pushing microtransactions in our faces, but we are talking about a mobile game after all.

“Explore the path of Xia in Assassin's Creed Codename Jade, set in the third century BC, during the time of one of the first unified dynasties in China,” reads the press release from Ubisoft. “An unprecedented era of trade and cultural exchange between East and West is just beginning, but with this comes new challenges and threats lurking in the shadows.

“From the Great Wall outside the empire's borders to the imperial capital of Xianyang, journey through a world filled with ancient history and hidden dangers. Defend against the Xiongnu and work to dismantle conspiracies, taking on greater responsibilities, and facing new challenges.”
The press release continues: “An Assassin’s Creed adventure for free, anywhere, anytime: Level Infinite is working closely with Ubisoft to create a true high-quality Assassin’s Creed game experience made for mobile platforms. Climb through cities, parkour from roof to roof, assassinate targets in multiple ways and engage in exciting combat.
“A huge open world to explore: Step into ancient China and journey through 2,000 years of history! Explore the prestigious dynasties of the East, defend the Great Wall and uncover the secrets of the terracotta warriors. Experience the breathtaking scenery of Xianyang, the imperial centre, and mingle with eastern merchants.”
Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade will also bring a character creation suite, a first for the series with added customisation. It’s certainly an exciting time for fans that have been looking to play a fully-fledged entry on the go. Thankfully that opportunity will be arriving much sooner than expected.
