There’s a lot for Assassin’s Creed fans to look forward to right now. Assassin’s Creed Mirage might be the obvious thing, but over the next few years, Ubisoft seems determined to give fans every game they’ve ever hoped for.
Perhaps the most obvious example is Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red. Although details are currently very light on the ground, we know that it’ll be set in feudal Japan - a setting which fans have been begging for for years. Codename Jade is incredibly exciting too, as it’ll be set in ancient China. Perhaps most intriguing of all though is Codename Hexe - while Ubisoft is yet to reveal much about it at all, the rumours surrounding it promise a truly one-of-a-kind Assassin’s Creed title.
Take a look at the trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage below.
A report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier previously claimed that Hexe takes place in the Holy Roman Empire and centres around witch trials, which, if true, is a brilliant concept. This rumour has prompted fans to wonder whether we might be getting a female protagonist - after all, it’d make a lot of sense given the setting.

As Game Rant reports, we may have just got our first ‘official’ hint about this by way of a LinkedIn post. Ubisoft Montreal’s talent acquisition specialist, Yara Tabbara, recently wrote: “Many rumours have been swirling about the witch-themed Assassin's Creed IP, AC Hexe, announced at Ubisoft Forward last year, and currently under development at Ubisoft Montréal.
“While I cannot confirm or deny these rumours, I can assure you that this game will leave a lasting mark on the franchise. Personally, I can't contain my excitement (or major chills) every time we get an update about this project.”
One comment on the post stated: “My hype for this game cannot be overstated. I hope it has some strong feminine energy!” To this, Tabbara reportedly replied: “In MANY ways, it DOES.”
While this doesn’t directly confirm a female protagonist, the dream is definitely still alive. We’ll just have to watch this space.
