You’re reading that correctly. Almost a full decade on from the release of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, a sequel has been officially announced, and it’s coming out very soon.
Assassin’s Creed super-fans might remember that this sequel was actually first revealed back in 2021 - it didn’t have a name or release date at the time, but it had a catch. That same catch still applies now, but don’t let it put you off - it genuinely sounds like it’s going to be great.
Before we get into it, take a look at the trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage below.
Enter Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple - a direct follow-up to Edward Kenway’s story in Black Flag. As stated in a press release (via Business Wire), Forgotten Temple will follow Edward’s journey to find the Pieces of Eden along the coasts of the Southeast Asian seas, after being fully integrated into the Assassin Brotherhood. We’ll also be introduced to a Korean American descendant of Edward, named Noa.

So, what’s the catch? Well, Forgotten Temple isn’t actually a game at all - it’s a WEBTOON series, which is basically like an online comic. However, Ubisoft is adamant that this is a sequel to the beloved game. There’ll be a total of 150 episodes published across three seasons, and the first six episodes will be published on 24 April on the WEBTOON website.
“We are thrilled to expand the Assassin’s Creed series to WEBTOON thanks to this amazing collaboration with WEBTOON and REDICE STUDIO,” said Julien Fabre, Ubisoft’s director of global TV and transmedia business development. “We’ve been working hard with the talented folks at REDICE to craft this original Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag sequel and hope that existing fans and new readers around the world will enjoy it.”
Forgotten Temple will be historically accurate, and will also use the Animus memory-travel machine from the games, so make of that what you will. Although it’s a sequel, the new story will apparently also “appeal to readers who are new to the franchise”.
New episodes of Forgotten Temple will roll out weekly on WEBTOON from 24 April - don’t miss out.
