Ubisoft has several new entries coming up for the Assassin’s Creed franchise and while many of those are brand-new titles, past leaks have pointed to a remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag being on the horizon also. However, according to an industry insider, Ubisoft could be planning more remakes.
We already know about several of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed projects, including Codename Red which will be set in Japan; Codename Hexe, where details are thin; plus Codename Invictus which is shaping up to be a multiplayer experience. Add to this the fan-favourite Black Flag getting a remake, the slate is already pretty full. But there could be more.
Could we go back to where it all began with an Ubisoft remake?
According to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, Ubisoft has another remake planned. Sadly, the report doesn’t mention which installment will be remade, so for now, we should take the news with a pinch of salt. However, we could also take some time to speculate which title Ubisoft plans to revisit.
Advert
There’s a lot of love for Assassin’s Creed 2, featuring Ezio as the protagonist, but that feels too obvious. We won’t be revisiting any of the RPG-trilogy anytime soon as they’re still very fresh. It’s highly likely we go back to where it all began. The original, Assassin’s Creed, was a monumental title that overhauled the stealth genre and brought to gamers an endearing story that split our attention between the present day and the past. Playing the game now, it doesn’t hold up all that well.
Perhaps Ubisoft could take a leaf out of Square Enix’s book and bring us a remake that deviates from the original release which would give them the excuse to bring in some modern changes to the gameplay. Imagine Assassin’s Creed with modern graphics and all the changes the developers have learned over the past two decades. It could be wonderful.
