With Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag almost celebrating its tenth anniversary, fans are calling out for a remaster. Thanks to one fan, that may already be possible.
It’s no secret that video game graphics are improving by the day, meaning that ten-year-old games such as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag are already a bit outdated. With Ubisoft showing no signs of bringing the game to current-gen consoles, it has fallen to modders to work on improvements. One modder, who has already worked on remastering games such as Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Mafia: Definitive Edition has now turned their attention to Black Flag.

The mod which aims to “improve characters to 4k resolution, improving their look” can be found on Nexus Mods courtesy of Instanity. Once downloaded to your game, it will improve the graphics for all the main characters in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. As a result, standard NPCs will not be included but rather any character that can be seen during cutscenes.

Being hailed as the “definitive AC game”, Black Flag can be found at the top of many lists debating on which Assassin’s Creed title is the best. Telling the story of pirate Edward Kenway during the Golden Age of Piracy, the game’s thrilling combat system and epic ship battles has cemented it in the gaming halls of fame. As a result, fans have been calling for a direct sequel for years but to no avail.
Despite there being no news about a potential Black Flag remaster, fans can look ahead to Assassin’s Creed Mirage which is set to launch on 5 October. Our very own Sam Cawley claims it is a “leap of faith that sticks the landing” in his review.
“For all of you who fell out of love with the Assassin’s Creed series during the RPG games, I'd urge you to take a leap of faith with Assassin’s Creed Mirage, I don't think you'll be disappointed,” he wrote.
