Halloween is fast approaching and I don’t know about you, but it is time to willingly put myself through pain by diving into a spooky game.
However, buying a whole new game just for Halloween can be a bit much so I have put together a list of ten games which are free to download right now.

Completely free and still sitting in the top half of the Steam charts is Once Human.
This open-world multiplayer survival horror is not as scary as some other titles on this list but it still captures that eerie atmosphere.

Players can unite with friends to take on some Lovecraftian-esque monsters, all whilst fighting for resources and land.
Next up is Incantation, a first-person horror exploration that tells the story of a mother searching for her lost daughter.
She soon finds herself wrapped up in a strange cult village known as the “Chen Family Village” and this mother must uncover the secrets of its people and hope she finds her daughter along the way.
Fans of nonsensical horror which will have you questioning reality can try Liminalcore.

Lost in Static is another psychological horror in first-person and again, your daughter has gone missing.

Those wanting something with horror themes but won’t scare the hell out of them can check out pixel-art Metroidvania, Harvester of the Dead.
Uncover the dark story as you battle infernal bosses, explore mysterious worlds, gain experience and unlock powerful spells in this epic action RPG.

If you want to drag your friends along for a horror-filled ride then We Are Alive is the perfect opportunity to do so.
This co-op horror game can be played by up to four players and will see you take on the role of a detective who must investigate an old psychiatric hospital.
With just a flashlight and a gun on your person, it is up to you to uncover its dark history as well as survive all it has to offer.
On the subject of hospitals, Malpractice is another online multiplayer horror experience where players will need to solve puzzles, discover secrets and avoid corrupted entities in a plague ridden hospital.

This title is perfect for those who want a creepy atmosphere but without any jump scares.
What begins with a harmless visit to his grandmother’s countryside home soon turns into a nightmare for Christopher as the familiar setting turns into a place full of unease.
In Echoes of the House, players will experience a psychological horror experience as Christopher explores this once familiar home which is now the site of unexplainable occurrences.
With just an hour of gameplay, this one is short but packs one hell of a punch.
Last but not least, Sparrow is a bit of a unique one as you can take on the role of an actual sparrow as they find themselves trapped inside a mysterious mansion.
The tiny sparrow must survive deadly encounters all whilst uncovering the home’s secrets.
