Money is the most important thing in the underworld of scum and villainy. Aside from the adorable Nix, credits - the currency of the galaxy - are the prime focus of Kay Vess and pretty much everyone else she comes into contact with throughout Star Wars Outlaws.
You will need a lot of credits throughout your playthrough of the latest Star Wars title, developed by Massive Ubisoft, and thankfully there are a fair few ways in which you can get your grubby little scoundrel hands on the good stuff. As you’d expect, there are a few ways to collect credits, with some being far more lucrative than others.
Pick up and sell what isn’t nailed down
As you explore the galaxy - well, the four worlds on offer - you’ll notice plenty of odds and ends ripe for collection. You’ll often spot these as they have a little Nix symbol above them indicating that either Nix or Vess can collect them. Trinkets, items, and technology parts are valuable and can be sold to various vendors.
Advert
It’s as simple as approaching them and accessing the ‘Sell’ option, but the funds you receive will vary depending on your allegiance to the faction the vendor represents. If the faction likes you, you’ll earn more money, and the opposite holds true too. If they hate you, you’ll earn less.
TIP: You can press the ‘Y’ or ‘Triangle’ button to sell all items of value. This keeps important items separate as they may be helpful later on in the story.
Slice those terminals
Slicing is, essentially, hacking into terminals via a minigame - a rather good minigame at that. You will select symbols in a kind of Star Wars Wordle to break into computer terminals, usually to deactivate security cameras or drop barriers. Slicing will also reward credits once you’ve broken through the cryptographic puzzle.
Advert
If you’ve never played Wordle before, you select symbols you think will appear in the key to the terminal. If the symbol appears in the correct position it’ll go green, if the symbol is in the key but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. You use this information to input the correct symbols in order to break in.
TIP: Get the code right before you enter the red zone and you’ll receive bonus credits for breaking in.
Raid outposts and compounds
As you explore the open-world sections of the planets you’ll come across outposts linked to various factions, or even the Empire. These are filled with enemies, some light puzzles and, most importantly, treasure chests. Often these chests will appear in random places, but can also be locked away behind security barriers.
Advert
The best way to get around these compounds is via stealth and knocking out the enemies, failing that you can go all ‘guns blazing’ and blast your way through. Once all the enemies are out of the picture, you’ll be able to explore freely, which really helps for those hidden chests, as you don’t want to be found rummaging through a faction’s valuables.
TIP: When you enter the outpost or compound, the name of the area will be displayed with a number of chests, helping you to know how many you’ll find.
Do some delivery work
Once you’ve made friends with the job brokers you’ll get access to contracts that act as distractions and side missions. One of these options will be smuggling goods for the factions. While these aren’t the most exciting missions available in Star Wars Outlaws, they do pay well, earning a few hundred credits per job, or a bit more if you’re happy to double-cross your client.
Advert
Some contracts offer valuable upgrade parts too, so if you’re hoping to secure parts for your ship or speeder, these can be useful. Normally you’ll have to travel to close space stations or camps shaking off a tail in the process, but they’re relatively simple tasks.
TIP: Brokers tend to offer jobs for all factions and completing the tasks can improve your favour with said factions.
Do some good old fashioned gambling
There are several ways to gamble in Star Wars Outlaws - Wandering Sylop, Fathier Racing, and Sabacc - while the latter requires a bit more time to get to the winnings, the former are great for a quick injection of cash when you get the chance.
Advert
Wandering Sylop is a lot like Find the Queen, except it’s not rigged so you never turn over the right card. You do have to have speedy eyes and maybe refrain from blinking. Wandering Sylop is played over four rounds, getting progressively harder, and you have to follow the face-down Sylop card as it moves around a board. Reveal it in all four rounds and you’ll win 333 credits for a bet of 10 credits. The machines do have a cooldown though, so you can’t game the system.
Then there’s Fathier Racing, which is simply betting on the horses. Except they’re space horses. You’ll get several options to bet on and you can place bets in larger increments. The downside to this is the outcome is completely random and based purely on luck. That is unless you scout out the surrounding area and find tips on the races which will guarantee a payout.
TIP: When you approach the Fathier table, you’ll see in the top-right corner if it’s a fixed race or not. If you don’t see this, don’t bet! If you do, put down the biggest bet possible.
