I never knew I needed this remake

One of the most important video games of all time is without question The Legend of Zelda which was originally released for the NES in 1986.

For its time, The Legend of Zelda was a revolutionary RPG from the genius minds of Shigeru Miyamoto and Takeshi Tezuka. The Legend of Zelda would help shape the evolution of the RPG genre for years to come with its importance still having an impact today on roguelikes such as The Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, and Cult of the Lamb to name a few.

One of the best remakes to be released in The Legend of Zelda series, in my opinion, is 2019’s The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for the Nintendo Switch inspired by the classic Game Boy game of 1993. Seriously, if you’ve never played this remake, you need to change that ASAP because it's an absolute delight.

Yet, it’s quite baffling to think that to this day, Nintendo hasn't fully remade the classic that sparked The Legend of Zelda series nearly 40 years ago. Thankfully, a talented indie developer has taken matters into their own hands by creating an awesome remake powered by Unreal Engine 5.

The talented modder in question is YouTuber LloydEmpty, who shared a gameplay trailer of the remake in motion and I want this game to be released, right now! Best of all, you can download the demo right now for free.

Nintendo has a habit of hitting indie developers hard when it comes to projects inspired by its most popular properties. Hopefully, Nintendo will leave this amazing fan project alone but I won't be holding my breath.

The original The Legend of Zelda is playable right now to subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online at no extra cost.
