The next Xbox console is in the works and its name has surfaced in official documents as part of an FTC lawsuit.
Ever since Microsoft made moves to acquire Activision Blizzard in January 2022 in a deal worth an eye-watering $68.7 billion, the whole process has been far from straightforward. The deal has faced opposition from the likes of Sony, Google and the FTC.
Xbox-exclusive Starfield is on the way soon.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) believe that if Microsoft successfully acquire Activision Blizzard, then they would essentially become too powerful within the video game industry. When the FTC attempted to block the proposed deal in December 2022, the regulatory body believed that Microsoft would have “both the means and motive to harm competition”. The FTC is also concerned that Microsoft will negatively impact the industry by “withholding content from competitors entirely, resulting in harm to consumers”.

Recently, documents were filed to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in response to Microsoft’s pending acquisition which seemingly narrowed down the launch window of the PlayStation 6. What's more, as reported by Game Rant, now it seems that FTC documents have confirmed Microsoft’s 10th generation console is in the works. Furthermore, the FTC documents also revealed the codename of Microsoft’s next console. However, that 15-character codename was unfortunately redacted. Game Rant speculates that the codename for the new Xbox presumably contains two words. Which makes sense, otherwise that would be one hell of a tongue twister.
Having a codename for an upcoming console is nothing new. For example, the Xbox Series generation was dubbed 'Project Scarlett' by Microsoft. The Xbox One was assigned the codename 'Project Durango' with the Xbox 360 and OG console named 'Project Natal' and 'Midway', respectively.
So what does this leaked codename mean? Well in truth, at this moment, not a great deal to be honest. After all, we all know it's a given that Microsoft will release its next-gen console at some point. When that console might arrive, only time will tell.
