2K Sports has announced its annual entry in the WWE 2K series and this year it’s all about celebrating 40 years of WrestleMania.
Up until quite recently, it’s fair to say that the WWE 2K series has turned a corner ever since the woeful mess that was WWE 2K20, which was so bad that it forced the publisher to skip its typical annual release.

Following the eventual releae of WWE 2K22 when WWE 2K23 arrived last year, it’s fair to say that developers Visual Concepts had turned a corner and the series was back on track following the departure of long-standing series developers Yukes (now in charge of AEW Fight Forever). Arguably, the WWE 2K series is now better than it ever was.

In our review of WWE 2K23, we said: “WWE 2K23 might not be perfect, but the series trajectory continues to evolve into one of the best wrestling video game franchises there ever was, then, now and forever. Simply put, WWE 2K23 is a must-buy for fans of the squared circle.”
With the series now back in full swing, 2K Games announced WWE 2K24 and brings three editions as well as multiple first-time over-stars. For the standard edition of WWE 2K24, the returning prodigal son of a plumber, “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes will be its cover star. The Deluxe Edition will feature both “The Eradicator” Rhea Ripley and the “EST of WWE” Bianca Belair, the first time that a woman duo has featured on the cover of the series and Belair being the first woman of colour to feature on the cover.
2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the “Grandest Stage of them All”, none other than the legendary PPV of pro wrestling, WrestleMania. In celebration of this historic milestone, fans of WWE will be about to pick up WWE 2K24: Forty Years of WrestleMania Edition. Its cover features a collage of WWE superstars from the past and present including The Rock, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair and more.

Regardless of what edition of WWE 2K24 you pick up, it will include the ‘Showcase…of the Immortals’ story campaign in which you can relive some of the most historic WrestleMania moments of all time. Developers Visual Concepts say that this will be the best-looking WWE 2K game ever with improved visuals and animations “with over 90% of facial expressions updated.”
WWE 2K24 will also feature improved gameplay as well as four new match types including the Ambulance Match, Casket Match, Gauntlet Match and Special Guest Referee. Though to be more precise, versions of these match-types have featured in previous WWE in some form. Additionally, WWE 2K24 will boast the largest roster in the history of the series with over 200 playable WWE Superstars.
Here’s what you get in each edition of WWE 2K24:
