Released in 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is without question one of the best action-adventure games of all time and helped to put developer CD Projekt RED on the map.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was met with rave reviews across the board and scored an almighty 92 and 9.2 on the aggregate website Metacritic, richly deserving its “Must-Play” accolade. Since that time, The Witcher 3 has benefited from a Nintendo Switch port as well as a free new-gen update on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

“You are Geralt of Rivia, mercenary monster slayer. Before you stands a war-torn, monster-infested continent you can explore at will,” reads the synopsis of The Witcher 3. “Your current contract? Tracking down Ciri — the Child of Prophecy, a living weapon that can alter the shape of the world.”

The Witcher 3 is a massive game packed full of interesting side quests, NPCs, monsters, mysteries and more, and that’s not even taking into account the main story missions. However, there is one mystery that has remained unanswered for many and that’s an NPC that can be seen in the early stages of the game.

“I have never understood who this is, and at this point, I'm afraid to ask…,” exclaimed Redditor Banjomir75. There were many theories as to who this person might be, but with no definitive answers, perhaps iiJashin provided the best explanation.

“I believe it’s a reference to Ciri’s past in the books. She often felt like a monster for doing what she did. She killed people: some in self-defence, some because they were in the way, and others simply because they were there,” iiJashin explained.

“She was constantly told what a monster she was by different outside forces, and she believed it herself because of the things she had done,” they continued.

“I believe this “dummy” is just a random person - but a random person meant to represent the unnamed people Ciri has killed. Geralt knows about Ciri’s unnecessary killings because he dreamt of them when they were apart.”

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
