Ubisoft has been going through somewhat of a rough patch as of late. You have to admit, it’s been a while since they released a major hit. They were relatively absent at last year’s Game Awards, except for Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope’s win.
After a tough financial year, Ubisoft have reportedly now cancelled three unannounced games in a bid to try and cut around $215 million costs. Reports claim that the company could also lessen its headcount. In terms of what’s in the pipeline for Ubisoft, we know Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Skull and Bones are both on the way - although they’ve both also been subject to delays. I do wonder if Skull and Bones will ever see the light of day. It turns out though, Ubisoft could possibly be working on an unaccounted Ghost Recon project too.
Take a look at the trailer for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora below. The game is due to be released this year.
As reported by ComicBook, a new Ghost Recon instalment is supposedly in the works. It’s been four years since Ghost Recon Breakpoint was released and I think the vast majority of us would agree that it was pretty underwhelming. Hopefully whatever Ubisoft is cooking up is a vast improvement. The news comes from industry insider Tom Henderson. When asked, “Are the reports true that a new Ghost Recon will release this year?” Henderson responded, “I don't think so. I believe it's forecasted for 2025 or so.”
As always, I’d take this with a pinch of salt until anything is officially confirmed but Ghost Recon games do tend to drop every few years so even if Henderson’s claim is a wild guess in the dark, it’s likely to be one that’ll ultimately come true. Given Ubisoft’s current string of cancellations though, I wouldn’t get too excited for now.
