The one thing about the modern Star Wars films that makes me angry, aside from ‘somehow Palpatine returned,’ is the misuse of Snoke.
The villainous Sith was built up to be this architect of evil, guiding Kylo Ren, shrouded in mystery, yet his end came far too soon and a great Star Wars villain was wasted. Literally.
Snoke was a guiding hand in Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Snoke was so underutilised, that fans have been asking, “So, who exactly was Snoke?”

This is the topic of a Reddit thread, where user Gunnersteele asked that very question and hoped that other fans might be able to make sense of it all.
They said, “Nothing was ever really explained about him in the movies. Massive fault of the movies and directors, but I’m curious who he actually was and what his purpose was in the grand scheme of things?”
The top answer, and perhaps the most disappointing answer, is, “Created by Palpatine. We see more Snokes on Exegol in episode 9.”
Another Redditor, FuzzyRancor, explores this further but only ends up with more questions, saying, “if he is just some recently made clone, how is he a powerful dark side user? Can Palpatine just make fully trained Sith lords in labs?”

Further down the thread, another Star Wars fan laments the use of Snoke, saying, “A poorly conceived and executed character. They created questions, then refused to answer them with something other than a shoulder shrug. Truly horrific writing in my opinion.”
Hopefully, one day, we’ll get more history on Snoke, or at least see him in further detail, even if that happens to be in comics rather than on screen.
As another Redditor says, “I'm hoping we get more detail on Snoke eventually, kinda like we did for Maul and Dooku.”
For now, we have to put up with what we got, even if it is a disappointing life story for the villain.
