Darth Plagueis was there all along, we just didn’t see it until now.
So-called Star Wars fans may gripe about lore being changed all willy-nilly, yet this secret not only changed the known lore in a big way, but it was also hidden in plain sight.

In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we learn that Darth Plagueis has been there the entire time.
How can this be?

Seeing as Palpatine seems to be body hopping, it makes sense that Darth Plagueis used a similar tactic to avoid death at the hands of his apprentice.
Of course, with this dramatic reveal comes a never-ending tumble down the rabbit hole of who’s really in charge here.
If you apply the above theory to Darth Plagueis, then it would be Darth Bane who’s actually captaining Palpatine’s body.
Whether you like this new information is immaterial, for it proves, if nothing else, how cunning Sith are in attempting to reach the ultimate end goal: becoming The One.

That’s what Palpatine, in particular, was aiming for.
His plans were scuppered, of course, but was it truly his plan to begin with, or was it Plagueis (or maybe even Bane) pulling the strings?
Like we said, this shocking twist has us crawling down the rabbit hole in search of more answers.
