Star Wars fans are divided over a proposed idea for a Return of the Jedi sequel and to be honest, we’ve heard the worst ideas.
When it comes to popular movie franchises, it doesn't get much bigger than Star Wars and since its first entry in 1977 with Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, it’s grown bigger with each new generation (though its quality has been debatable, recently).
Check out the trailer for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi below!
Out of the original Star Wars trilogy, Episode VI - Return of the Jedi is perhaps viewed as the least popular of the three with one of its most common criticisms being a rushed plot. Oh, and some people just don’t like Ewoks, so there is that.

What’s more, for decades, many fans have been unhappy with the direction of the Star Wars series following Return of the Jedi but there was a glimmer of hope with Episode VII - The Force Awakens in 2015 but then we had The Last Jedi two years later to knock our enthusiasm down several pegs.
That being said, a Star Wars fan believes that they have a cunning plan on how to get the beloved franchise back on track.
“Lucasfilm, please just give us the story we actually want. Recast Luke, and make a show about the aftermath of Return of the Jedi,” said Ryan Arey on Bluesky. “Every season is a year. He gathers Jedi knowledge, meets Clone Wars characters, and fights Sith cults, Imperials, and pirates. Would you watch it?”
This take sparked a conversation with fellow Star Wars fans on Reddit. “Do you agree with this? I personally don’t,” asked Ok_Relief7546.

“If done well, I'd watch the crap outta this,” stated doogbone.
“Yup. This is what I have wanted ever since I was a child and watched Return of the Jedi,” replied AT-ST.
“Yeah, this is where the value is in the IP,” claimed shmere4. “This could be a gold mine if the creatives in charge know what they are doing.”
“It's not what the story or show is about, it's whether or not it's well-made. If you take that idea and give it to the team behind The Book of Boba Fett, I don't think it'll go well,” exclaimed The-Chartreuse-Moose.

“No. I think Star Wars needs a soft reboot by jumping a thousand years into the past or the future and telling new stories that are completely unconnected to the Skywalker saga or the prequel/sequel era,” explained obert-wan-kenobert.
“No. I'm ready to move out of the Skywalker era, completely,” said Three_Twenty-Three. “It's a big galaxy with a lot of storytelling potential, and I want to see more of that explored.
We’ll just have to wait and see what Lucasfilm and Disney have planned for the Star Wars franchise. Hopefully, we’ll learn more at the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan between 18 April and 20 April 2025.
In the meantime, we can watch the entire Star Wars series on Disney Plus right now.
