When it comes to the Star Wars universe, there are not many characters as beloved as Grand Jedi Master Yoda, so imagine the surprise when the character dubbed “Baby Yoda” made his debut in The Mandalorian.
There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Yoda and it seems that no one knows for sure what his species is or what planet he is from, other than perhaps Star Wars creator, George Lucas. Yet, when The Mandalorian arrived on Disney Plus in 2019, we were introduced to “Baby Yoda” who we later learned his name was Grogu.

The origins of Grogu are perhaps more mysterious than Yoda, who by the looks of things, is not his father. However, a fan on Reddit believes they may have solved one of the galaxy's most intriguing mysteries.

“Okay this is a weird theory, but hear me out, please,” asked a Reddit user to fellow members on the thread. “In Chapter 1 of The Mandalorian, we learned that The Child/Grogu is 50 years old.”
“Since The Mandalorian happens in 9ABY, we can conclude that Grogu was born 41BBY, which is when Anakin Skywalker was born,” they continued. “In Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Shmi (Anakins mother) tells Qui-Gon Jin that, 'There was no father'."
“In Star Wars Legends, Anakin was born because of a ritual that Plageuis and Sidious held,” they continued. By the way, Star Wars Legends is not canon.
The Reddit user went on to explain that the ritual “created so much Dark Side energy that the Force had to neutralise it by creating Light Side energy which is what impregnated Shmi. I think Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian showrunners) want to canonise this, and possibly show it in The Acolyte.”

“But what's important is that if this is indeed true, it explains who Grogu's parents are. Grogu's mother is either Yaddle or some other female member of Yoda's species, but he has no father. Because just like Anakin, Grogu was born through the Force, with no dad, and that explains why he's so powerful at an age that's considered an infant for Yoda's species.”
It’s important to note, that it’s not been confirmed by Star Wars creators who Grogu’s parents are. That could be revealed one day or much like Yoda, it can be left to us to speculate for years on end.
“I see what you’re getting at but I personally feel like Grogu would be one too many species being born of the Force,” replied Mshka.
“I had this same theory just because it makes much sense, it was indeed around the time that Plageuis and Palpatine were messing around with the Dark Side,” said another user. “Also, Favreau has great plans with Grogu and it makes sense to get a new character to revolve around for the upcoming Star Wars saga.”
