Star Wars fans are surprised after hearing about a brand new trilogy in the works at Lucasfilm.

One of the most successful Star Wars projects following Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm has been The Mandalorian TV series.

Created by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal, The Mandalorian follows a lone bounty hunter in the years following Return of the Jedi, who becomes a guardian for a Force-sensitive child who is being hunted by the remnants of the Empire.

A fourth season entered development after Season 3 aired in 2023. However, Disney later re-evaluated its plans for the Star Wars franchise and the decision was made to turn it into a film.

Titled The Mandalorian & Grogu, the film is expected to premiere on 22nd May, 2026. Pascal will reprise his role as Din Djarin, and he’ll be joined by Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White.

However, according to well-known Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman (known online as DanielRPK), Disney has plans to potentially turn this into a new trilogy of films depending on how well The Mandalorian & Grogu performs at the Box Office.

Despite the popularity of The Mandalorian on Disney Plus, fans seem to be a little negative on the report.

“Pedro is a great actor but ngl I’m tired of seeing this man everywhere,” writes one on X (formerly Twitter).

“Wish these rich corporations would just craft a trilogy for the love of the story vs how much money it makes,” another fan wrote.

“This is what’s wrong with films,” a third fan wrote. “Either have an incredible story that needs to be told in a trilogy or don’t but don’t f***ing make it a money or success based thing. Tell the story you wanna tell.”
