Some things in the Star Wars universe are best left as unknowns – like what the Jawas look like beneath their robes.

I don't speak for every Star Wars fan here, but Jawas are quite cute.

At least, that’s what I thought before I learnt what they look like under the hoods.

Redditor godzillavkk asked r/StarWars, “If Jawa's are ever shown WITHOUT their robes, what do you think they should look like?”

From there, a discussion about what they look like based on snippets of lore we’ve learnt about them over the years ensued.

The OP posited that they’re “rat humanoids”, which seems to be bang on the money for the most part.

Let's pretend we still don't know what Jawas look like and just enjoy the A New Hope trailer

“Yeah, little rodent people,” replied Specimen-B. “Originally cave dwellers, so their ears shrank and their tails because short and vestigial. They lost much of their fur. Water loss from the caves forced them to venture out, hence the robes.”

User Vegan_Harvest supported this theory while also expanding on it, saying, “They're supposed to be hairy, rodent-like iirc and also distantly related to the Tuskans. So little metal faces? That could explain the glowing eyes in several ways.”

Neither description is exactly comforting or cute.

So much so that one user simply posted “scream” by way of response – that’s how upsetting it is to see under the hood.

This isn’t the only detail about a Star Wars species we wish we could unlearn; fans have recently discovered what Tuskans look like under their masks as well.

Arguably, it’s more scary than Jawas, but still, it’s all very disconcerting.

We can’t help but wonder what new unsettling details will be featured in episodes 10-12. Even though we know little about the new trilogy, fans have a “bad feeling” about it, which doesn’t bode well.

We’ve taken another peek behind the veil and seen Star Wars lore we’d rather not know. When will we ever learn?
