The Star Wars community is once again locked in a heated debate about the franchise’s lore.
Controversy never seems to be far away in the Star Wars community, unfortunately.
This time around, it’s a character from the prequels being killed off that has fans arguing amongst themselves.

In an upcoming story, Darth Vader kills Watto.
Not wishing to insult anyone here, as I assume you’re well versed in Star Wars knowledge if you’re reading about the series.
GAMINGbible sat down with Jude Law to talk about his role in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
That being said, just in case you don’t know each character by name, Watto is the human trafficker we meet on Tatooine when Anakin is a young boy. Ergo, they’re not exactly a nice character.

Still, their demise has fans divided.
To be clear, they’re not upset about Watto’s death – few, if any, have any love for the individual. Nonetheless, some believe Vader killing Watto is an “insult to Vader’s character”.
As InfiniteDedekindCuts points out in an r/starwarscomics discussion, we’ve yet to know the specifics leading up to this slaying.
But even without such knowledge, that same poster doesn’t understand why Vader doing this is disrespectful.

“I don't see how having Vader kill Watto is some big disrespect to the character. Like, isn't killing people he sees as beneath him pretty in character for Vader?” they said.
User WhiskeyDJones disagrees, saying, “Tbf I always thought the idea of Vader wanting to kill Watto was out of character [...] He is the most feared being in the Galaxy, this is all beneath him.”
The back and forth continues, this time with solo13508 interjecting, “This is the same guy who spent decades fantasising about killing Obi-Wan. I don't think going to kill Watto is exactly out of character for him.”
We could go on, but the comments are much the same, with each fan arguing their reasoning for being for or against the OP’s original statement.

In short, when it comes to Vader, everyone has an opinion.
