New Lord Of The Rings movies on the way, with Peter Jackson's involvement

With Jackson's involvement, we feel relieved

Join us in our collective relief at hearing that Peter Jackson is involved with the new The Lord of the Rings films.

When it was first announced that Warner Bros had secured this multi-million dollar deal with Embracer Group AB, the holders of the rights to the film and games, many fans were anxious. Understandably so, too. The original trilogy is hailed as one of the greatest in cinematic history, so any news that they may potentially be tampered with is cause for alarm.

Witness where the iconic film series began in The Fellowship of the Ring

Thankfully, Warner Bros has no intention of remaking the original trilogy, with it instead focusing on new stories from Middle Earth. What is more, Peter Jackson will be involved, though, at this time, there’s no mention of him taking the role of director for the new films.

According to Jackson, per Deadline’s coverage, “Warner Brothers and Embracer have kept us in the loop every step of the way. We look forward to speaking with them further to hear their vision for the franchise moving forward."

Hopefully, this means that iconic battles like Helm’s Deep will make the final cut of the new films, ensuring that the legacy of awe-inspiring battles lives on. As for connecting to the lore in Amazon’s The Rings of Power, those IP rights weren’t included in the purchase, meaning that that kind will remain firmly with Amazon for now.

Beyond that, we can only hazard a guess at where in the LOTR timeline the films will be set. Regardless of whether they occur after the ring was destroyed or before, we’re certain that Jackson’s involvement will ensure these new films live up to the legacy of the originals. If they don’t, we anticipate strong backlash from the fandom, a fate worse than death in a lot of instances.

Speaking of Rings of Power, its second season will return at some point this year.
