It’s officially spider season, and not just because if you also live in the UK, they’re trying to get into your house. Shudder. I’m, of course, talking about the fact that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is on the way.
Already, some fans are complaining that the game is ‘too short’ after one reviewer leaked their completionist time online. Still, that hasn’t dulled our hype. Insomniac is already teasing a further team-up between Peter and Miles - and if our preview is anything to go by, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is looking to be a treat. GAMINGbible’s Ewan wrote, “All the pieces are in place for one of the most exciting and high-stakes Spider-Man stories of all time. In short, this is shaping up to be the perfect sequel: bigger, faster, and altogether more spidery than its predecessors.” It’s not all positive news though in the world of Spider-Man. One Spidey film has just been quietly cancelled by Sony.
Take a look at our preview of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below.
As I’m sure you’re aware, Sony has been slowly building out its own Spidey universe - away from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe - with mixed results. While audiences enjoyed Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Morbius can only be described as a complete and utter disaster. There are several further projects on the way including a further Venom instalment, Kraven The Hunter, and Madame Web - but the plug has been pulled on Silver Sable.

As reported by ComicBook, writer Lindsey Anderson Beer, who was connected with the project, explained that Sony was no longer interested in the film. “[Silver Sable] was something that Sony was looking at and then, as far as I know, is not currently developing. I had to hop off that to another project at the time,” she explained.
If you’re unfamiliar with Silver Sable, the character is a skilled mercenary and is typically an ally to Spider-Man, although she has been known to get on his bad side. The film reportedly began life as Silver and Black and would’ve seen Silver Sable hunting down Black Cat. It’s unknown if a solo film about Black Cat remains in the works.
