Spider-Man Noir could be the next Spiderverse character to get a TV/film spinoff, and Nicolas Cage is rumoured to be returning to play the character.
When Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse released in cinemas, it treated us to several on-screen variants of everyone’s favourite wallcrawler, one of which being Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir, a gritty, detective version of the character from the 1930s. While Noir did return in Across The Spider-Verse, it was only a brief shot at the end of the film, setting him up to be part of Spider-Gwen’s team in Beyond The Spider-Verse, which has been delayed from its initial 2024 release.
Take a look at Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse below.
Now it seems Nicolas Cage will reprise his role of the Spider-Man variant in live-action format, as it’s rumoured a Spider-Man Noir TV show is in the early stages of development.
Advert
It’s said the show will be produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and will not be focused on a Peter Parker version of the webslinger. Instead, it’ll reportedly be a different version of Spider-Man Noir, from a storyline where another man takes on the mantle instead. This would conflict with Cage’s portrayal of the character in the Spider-Verse films, as that version of the character was Peter Parker under the mask.
This would be the second time Cage has played a live-action superhero, with the first being Ghost Rider. Cage was even supposed to play Superman in a planned DC film that was unfortunately scrapped. Cage’s depiction of the Man Of Steel did finally get its big-screen debut in The Flash (2023), where he appeared as a CGI cameo.
It’s unknown if Cage is officially onboard the project at the time of writing, as the latest information states he’s in talks to play the character and hasn’t agreed to anything just yet, but we'll be keeping an eye on developments.
