It’s well known that while entertainment projects are in development, codenames are used throughout to stop leaks and have a singular point of reference for the production teams.
What wasn’t so well known was that Marvel used some codenames linked to Netflix’s Stranger Things while making Deadpool & Wolverine.
Deadpool & Wolverine recently debuted on Disney+ to become the most-watched live-action film.
We got a peek behind the scenes with the released of the screenplay from Marvel themselves.

In this document, we can see that several of the big cameos Deadpool & Wolverine has become known for, were hidden behind Stranger Things character names.
To give you an idea of how these names worked, Elektra was known as Eleven, Blade was name Billy, and Johnny Storm was seen as Jonathon Byers in the script.
It makes a lot of sense as Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool & Wolverine, is an executive producer on Stranger Things.
His production company is a big part of the Netflix smash hit and he’s even directed some episodes of the show.

This little nugget of information was discussed over on Reddit, where fans were both shocked and impressed.
One Redditor comments their surprise that “Deadpool never called Cassandra Eleven”.
To be fair, once you read through the pages, it’s pretty clear to see which character was hidden behind each name.
I’m not sure which other Marvel characters would “burst into flames,” but it’s a lovely touch.

Most of the comments revolve around how they didn’t really hide Henry Cavill’s take on Wolverine.
One user points out, “‘Loads his arms mission impossible style’ [...] doesn’t leave much up to the imagination.”
This, of course, refers to the scene in Mission Impossible - Fallout where Cavill shakes his muscles out, appearing as if he’s ‘reloading’ his strength.
It makes you wonder which other films have used cute codenames in this way. Perhaps we’ll get more if Levy returns for Deadpool 4.
