A new dawn for Iron Man is breaking, and with it comes a teaser that our new superhero will be markedly different from Robert Downey Jr’s portrayal.

The MCU as we know it is changing.

Fans have suspected that the Avengers 6 would spell the end of the comic book cinematic universe we’ve been used to, but now Marvel has confirmed it’s all coming to an end.

Ah, how times are changing for Iron Man...

In knowing that, maybe we shouldn’t be so surprised with the latest teaser for the new Iron Man.

Although this teaser is for the comic book version as opposed to the MCU one, it’s still going to be a stark contrast for RDJ fans.

In an exclusive interview with Comic Book, Spencer Ackerman discussed how Tony Stark stuck in “pure survival mode”.

“The stakes start out very high and escalate from there,” Ackerman explained, “A big theme of this run is going to be scale - the pursuit of it, the maintenance of it, the cost of it. We've seen Tony cross some very serious moral lines in the past. Now we're going to scale them up.”

RDJ had some tense morally ambiguous moments, though none that feel this aggressively fuelled by self-preservation.

For Ackerman, the new armour Iron Man obtains is one of the deciding factors for such a contrast in Toyn Stark’s usual self-assured cockiness.

“The Improvised Iron Man showcases vulnerability and desperation. This is something a very smart person makes when all else has failed and what comes next can't,” stated Ackerman.

Arguably, being faced with “ruthless extremes” from those looking to take your business empire from you does that to a person.

Intimidating threats come from all sides for this new Iron Man, though, as revealed by the new Iron Monger of this story.

When asked if Ackerman could disclose any information about who Iron Monger is, or at the very least, details about their unusual armour, Ackerman spoke of an “extensive history with Iron Man.”

“The Iron Monger armor exploits a traditional vulnerability of Tony's to devastating effect. It's also huge and terrifying, an imposing hydraulic behemoth,” they added.

The Iron Man we knew is gone, and while we’ve been offered a sneak peek behind the mask, there’s much about this angrier Stark we have yet to learn.
