With the next Captain America film right around the corner, and by around the corner we mean 2025, it seems Marvel could be making bold moves and showing that a fan-favourite Avenger is dead.

During the recent trailer for Captain America: Brave New World we saw a quick cutaway to a funeral scene and fans are already heartbroken at what this could mean.

Captain America: Brave New World will be in cinemas next year

Of course, we’re jumping to conclusions, but some believe that good old Steve Rogers is in that coffin.

After all, we don’t know what happened to the original Captain America after he passed his shield to Sam and walked off into the sunset.

If he is confirmed dead, it’s likely he died of old age rather than at the hands of a villain and the funeral certainly looks like one being held for an American hero.

Given the flag draped coffin and the salutes being performed, it’s obviously a military funeral, which does hint towards Cap.

However, and this is more likely, it could be President Ross, as played by Harrison Ford. We know that Ross is the red hulk in the new film, so it could be the President “dying” in order to live out his days as a hulk.

This is bolstered by the fact that Liv Tyler, who plays Ross’ daughter in the film, was spotted at this funeral scene in set photos and she has no direct ties to Steve Rogers.

Of course, this does raise the question, is Rogers dead at this point? His super soldier serum may well keep him alive for longer than the average human, but he may also have passed on from old age by now.

No other MCU project has dealt with the OG Captain America since Avengers: Endgame and some believe that Rogers deserves a proper Marvel death scene int he films for the fans to mourn him. Either way, make sure to take tissues with you just in case.
