Deadpool & Wolverine lands a strong Rotten Tomatoes score

The scores are in, but they're a bit more of a mixed bag than the Certified Fresh score might initially lead you to believe...

A critical consensus for Marvel's latest blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine has been reached, and Disney are doubtlessly happy that the MCU is back on top form.

Following its premiere at the David H. Koch Theater in New York on Monday, Deadpool & Wolverine has been certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a healthy 80% score.

Obviously it's not all positive, and Rotten Tomatoes' Top Critics seem a little harsher on the MCU's latest outing, but the house of the mouse is likely thrilled given the scores for some of the most recent Marvel films (*cough* like Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania *cough*).

Even some of the most positive reviews do have a little bit of a backhanded tone to them however, such as Richard Roeper's 3/4 review for the Chicago Sun-Times that stated Deadpool & Wolverine is "all great fun, and it’s just enough to overcome the uninspired direction, mid-level special effects and hit-and-miss humor."

Mick LaSalle's 2.5/4 review for the San Francisco Chronicle was equally hit-and-miss, proclaiming that the film is "definitely not for everybody, but even a non-fan stumbling into the theater accidentally will find whole sections here to enjoy."

Harsher reviewers were decidedly less gentle in pulling their punches though.

Clarisse Loughrey's 2/5 review for The Independent is one of the film's harshest critical appraisals. "Deadpool & Wolverine is as much fun as you can conceivably have at a corporate merger meeting", wrote Loughrey, who was previously very positive in her 4/5 review for The Marvels.

David Rooney for the Hollywood Reporter was equally scathing, noting that "for the core audience, the gags will be reward enough, even if the rest of us might squirm as the sloppily staged action grows repetitive,"

Based on the consensus, it seems if you're going into Deadpool & Wolverine expecting a reference filled, silly adventure, then you'll likely not leave the theatre disappointed.

MCU-adverse cinema-goers might want to temper their expectations however, as those who have been unimpressed by Marvel's more recent films will likely find themselves equally displeased with Deadpool & Wolverine.
