In Marvel news that isn’t particularly shocking and feels more reassuring, another MCU hero has been confirmed to return in Avengers: DOOMSDAY.
It appears that Benedict Cumberbatch will return to the role of Doctor Strange in the next Avengers film to take on Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
Marvel is back next year with two films, including Thunderbolts*
That might not come as a surprise - it seems everyone is coming back for the next Avengers film, including Chris Evans.

However, it’s nice to know that there’s a place for Doctor Strange in the ensemble, especially as details around his third film are still feeling speculative.
Cumberbatch told Japanese outlet TV Groove, “I think there's going to be some really cool developments ahead, and I'm excited to see what happens next.”
There’s a part of me that wants all these actors to come back and just play different roles.
We know Robert Downey Jr. is playing Doctor Doom, but we still don’t know for sure if he’s playing the Doctor Doom, or just a variant.

I’d love for Cumberbatch to take on another hero’s role, perhaps that of Iron Man, just to play off the constant bickering we saw between Doctor Strange and Tony Stark in Avengers Endgame.
This would certainly heighten the idea of the multiverse, plus capitalise on some of the wild stories we get from the likes of Marvel’s What If…?
Whether Marvel is that bold, we will have to find out in a few years time.
It’s more likely we’ll see the actor back in the cloak. The last we saw of him, he was chasing down an incursion event, so maybe that brings him to this point in time.

More casting news is bound to keep trickling out until we begin to see set photos and details are revealed from creatives. Who is next to come back?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Black Widow for a gut punch scene with the OG Avengers.
