Joker 2 bombed so hard it's killed another long-awaited sequel

Joker 2 bombed so hard it's killed another long-awaited sequel

Well, that was unexpected

The recent failure of the Joker 2 may have had an unexpected result as it is rumoured another long-awaited sequel may have been killed as a result.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you will know that the highly-anticipated Joker sequel known as Joker: Folie à Deux was a massive flop.

Check out the trailer for Joker: Folie á Deux below!

Hitting cinemas just last week, the sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, has been the subject of ridicule with the thriller-turned-musical receiving bad reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Slammed for its influx of show tunes, lack of plot and questionable ending, Joker: Folie à Deux has found itself sitting at a 33% score on Rotten Tomatoes and its domestic opening weekend found it earning less than The Marvels and even Morbius.

However, it seems its failure has also had a negative impact on an upcoming sequel.

In a bizarre turn, Joker 2’s abysmal opening “has basically killed off I Am Legend 2” according to EmpireCity Box Office.

You may be wondering what these two movies have in common and quite simply, they have the same studio behind them.

With I Am Legend 2 set to be quite the expensive sequel, not just because it would feature Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan, Joker 2’s failure may spell the end for a project of this size.

The sequel to I Am Legend was first announced back in 2022 but updates have been pretty scarce.

However, it is not all doom and gloom as, despite having the same studios in Warner Bros., I Am Legend 2 still has other companies attached to it so it may just get away with it.

In June of this year, Jordan revealed that the script was “still getting up to par… it doesn’t have a release date or anything like that”.

So let us hope that the downfall of Joker: Folie á Deux doesn’t spell the end for another highly-anticipated sequel.

Only time will tell.
