Fan-casting for the upcoming HBO Harry Potter reboot is back in full swing and this time, fans have turned their attention to a potential actor who could take on the role of Remus Lupin himself.

Portrayed by David Thewlis in the original Harry Potter movie series, Lupin has cemented himself as one of the most beloved characters in the magical universe.

Take a trip down memory lane with the trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone below!

First appearing in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Lupin is best known for being a member of the Marauders, a Defence Against the Dark Arts professor and of course, a werewolf.

With the HBO Harry Potter reboot expected to cast actors around the ages they were in the books by J.K. Rowling, we can expect to see our favourite characters look a lot younger than we are used to.

That being said, with Lupin being one of the youngest professors to teach at Hogwarts at the age of 38, it remains to be seen which actor will take on the iconic role.

However, according to some fans, there is already a favourite.

“Wishing HBO casts Joe as Remus Lupin in the new HP series!” One post read over on r/JosAlwyn.

“Wouldn't it be amazing if Joe can land the age-appropriate role of Remus Lupin on HBO's Harry Potter series?

He has the gravitas and the charisma, and I think he can really pull it off beautifully. Plus he has that amazing voice...What do you all think?”

Best known for his roles in 2018’s Boy Erased and more recently, 2024’s The Brutalist, Alwyn is apparently most known for dating Taylor Swift but hey ho.

Nevertheless, other Harry Potter fans joined in with this potential casting.

“Never thought of it, but it's actually a great idea. We should help make it happen. Where to write to the casting crew?” One user replied.

Another said: “This is such a good idea! I didn’t even think about it but Joe would be an amazing Lupin!”

At the time of writing, there have been no official castings for HBO’s Harry Potter reboot but with filming expected to start soon, it won’t be long before we see if Alwyn will be joining the brand-new cast.
