Cyberpunk 2077 live-action V casting leaves fans divided

Cyberpunk 2077 live-action V casting leaves fans divided

Who's your pick?

A live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is on the way.

In fact, it was announced back in 2023 but over one year on, we’re yet to hear much else about it.

You may have noticed that I said ‘project’ as CD Projekt RED hasn’t exactly confirmed whether it’s a film or TV series.

All that’s been confirmed is that the project is being made in partnership with Anonymous Content, the production company behind True Detective, 13 Reasons Why, and The Revenant.

Just last month, CDPR joint CEO Michal Nowakowski told VGC that the project is “further in than we were a year ago,” but explained that it’s still early days: “We're also not yet at the stage where we would be shopping around the concept to potential streamers or studios.”

With that in mind, the project certainly isn’t ready to start contemplating something like casting, especially if the scripts still aren’t pinned down.

We don’t even know if the project will be a like-for-like adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, or whether it’ll simply be a new story set within this world.

If it is the former though, fans have already taken to discussing who should play V.

Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way in the last few years.

Reddit user schulzy175 kicked off the conversation, saying, “If they ever make a Cyberpunk 2077 live action movie, Robbie Amell NEEDS the role of V.”

I’m guessing the user might be going off of Robbie’s work in Code 8 which, I have to say, is pretty good.

“I mean they should just get Gavin Drea the guy who voices Male V and is part of the looks for Male V in the marketing trailers, plus he does more on screen acting than voice acting too so I think it would be perfect,” countered McDinkster.

“Ryan Gosling as V. Change my mind,” added AzukiiMochi, presumably being inspired by the actor’s work in Blade Runner 2049.

Aaron Paul, Garrett Hedlund, and Timothee Chalamet were also posed as possible choices.

Weirdly, much of the conversation centred around a male V and not the female version.

I should stress that due to Cyberpunk 2077’s vast number of customisation options, V could literally be played by anyone - an exciting prospect for the live-action project’s producers, I’m sure.
