Assassin's Creed Live-Action Ezio Casting Leaves Gamers Torn

Though the different Assassin's Creed games have their own strengths and weaknesses, Ezio Auditore da Firenze consistently comes up as one of the very best protagonists amongst fans.

As the only figure to serve as the playable character in three main series games, Ubisoft clearly agreed, and his legacy as one of the most important assassins is secure.

It probably also helps his overall appeal that the Assassin's Creed games he appeared in are some of the best the developer has ever produced, wrapping his story up in a convenient trilogy that hit all the right notes.

It's little wonder, then, that talks quickly turned to other adaptations that could feature him. Top of that list is the now confirmed adaptation going on over at Netflix, which had been sitting in limbo for a long time.

Headed up by Westworld's Roberto Patino and Halo's David Wiener as showrunners, there's little word yet on exactly when and where it will take place. If it does feature Ezio though, fans are really struggling to decide exactly who should don his legendary hood.

Over on Reddit, several names have been put forward as potential options. The Musketeers' Luke Pasqualino is one of the most frequent proffered options, while Ben Barnes, who played Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, is another.

Another was more willing to experiment with the role, saying, "I'm a big supporter of up and coming actors/actresses so I'm happy seeing a new face leading it. But I know if they cast the show in this manner they will probably need a big face to promote it like they did with Henry Cavill in The Witcher."

Netflix has shown considerable willingness to experiment with roles in recent adaptations, so the actor may be less recognisable than we might expect. With Splinter Cell: Deathwatch also on the way later this year at Netflix, gaming adaptations seem to be a direction the streaming service is keen to lean into more.
