It seems it never matters how many times you play The Witcher 3, there’s always something new to discover.
This is exactly what happened to one player who was happily minding their own business in the opening area of The Witcher 3, White Orchard, when all of a sudden they were attacked by a Level 21 Chort.
If you're looking for another open-world adventure, we can recommend Star Wars Outlaws
I say they were minding their own business, but it turns out this monster will attack you if you’ve committed a very particular heinous act.

After reporting this Chort attack on Reddit, The Witcher 3 community gathered around and gave out a lesson.
Redditor DiceCubed1460 laid out what the original poster did wrong, “It only shows up if you kill the cows in order to punish you for being a bad Geralt.”
Apparently, CD Projekt Red looks down on the slaughter of innocent cows. However, there’s more to it than that.
According to ProffesorSpitfire, “I believe this didn’t happen in the original release but was added in a later patch to remedy the fact that the cows respawn and thus were an inexhaustible source of gold very early in the game.”

This makes a lot of sense from a balancing perspective. If you’re leaving the starting area with bags full of gold, it’s going to change the rest of the game.
This change, which happened with patch 1.05 actually has a rather funny name - “Bovine Defense Force” as laid out on the game’s Wiki page.
If this happens to you, user caliluv10600 has some advice, “If you take him over to the bridge where the soldiers are they will deal with him for you.”
So, there you have it, a nasty beasty will come and murder you if you’re caught butchering too many cows.

Apparently pigs are fine though, as Terry_T_SD informs the original poster, “Next time remember that there’s a pig pen behind the Inn at White Orchard that you can farm to your heart's content for 80 vitality pork meat and hides.”
