Talking in an interview with Total Film, Dwayne Johnson is confident that a DC Comics and Marvel crossover is possible and that the two publishers should make the most of their rosters of heroes and villains to satisfy both of their fanbases.
Slated to release in October, Black Adam sees Johnson step into the spandex of the titular supervillain as he doles out his own form of justice upon the world after being imprisoned for five thousand years. As for the remainder of the cast, Johnson is joined by Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi as Isis, Bodhi Sabongui as Amon, Marwan Kenzari as Sabbac, and Viola Davis is reprising her role as Amanda Waller.

It's clear that DC Films is trying to branch out from its formula with Black Adam, and now, it looks like it is boldly going where no comic book movie has gone before. "The goal is to really expand the universe, and introduce new characters, and spin-offs, and be really strategic about the plan," explained Johnson. "I think our ambition has always been that this is all a shared universe, you know?” added producer Hiram Garcia in the interview. "While [Black Adam and Shazam] may not be crossing paths, everything exists in a big umbrella of the DC universe. And we want to be able to build out the universe as big as we can, and, you know, with those ambitions. If everything’s received the way we hope it will be, we have opportunities to potentially see crossovers in certain points.”

Johnson then popped the question of a possible crossover. "I am optimistic," he said about his ideal Marvel mashup with Black Adam. "Just my nature is optimistic. And especially when it comes to creative. Especially when it comes to movies. And especially when it comes to the pantheon of DC superheroes and supervillains. Across the street, we have the pantheon of superheroes and supervillains of Marvel. To me, they can not only exist, but they should, in my mind, cross paths one day." Obviously, there would need to be a lot of organisation and back and forth over the concept, but never say never.
