In just a few days time, we’ll finally be able to enjoy The Last of Us’ second episode. Let’s be honest, it’s all anyone’s been talking about this week. For me, it’s been a welcomed experience. Usually I spend my days talking about The Last of Us at people, to be talking about it with people is new.
It probably won’t surprise you that HBO’s take on the series is already a major success. It’s HBO’s second-largest debut since 2010, plus it’s now been revealed that over 10 million people tuned in in the United States across just two days. Throughout the week, fans have been making eagle-eyed discoveries. Did you notice that Joel and Sarah only narrowly avoided becoming infected? There’s also a fun cameo. What you may not know is that one cast member has a very famous mum.
Take a look at what’s in store in the weeks ahead on The Last of Us below.
If you were thinking that Nico Parker, who plays Sarah in the show, looked familiar, well it may be because you're familiar with her mum’s work. Nico Parker is actually the daughter of actress Thandiwe Newton. It’s one of those situations that when you find out, you feel slightly stupid for not knowing in the first place simply because of how alike the duo look.

Thandiwe Newton has many high-profile credits to her name but you may know her best for her role as Maeve in Westworld or Val in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Professionally, Nico uses her father Ol Parker’s surname. Fans are all in agreement that Parker’s performance as Sarah in the opening episode was incredible. I knew Sarah’s death was coming and let me tell you, I bawled.
Don’t feel bad if you didn’t realise that Nico Parker and Thandiwe Newton were related. I’ve had multiple people say to me this week, ‘Marlene looks and sounds just like Marlene in the game.’ Hint: It is Marlene from the game. That’s an extra little fact if you weren’t already in the know.
