The privilege of being Steam’s most-wishlisted game is a crown few truly great titles can say they’ve worn. Only games that have captured the hearts and minds of the masses can claim it, and it’s truly a distinction, especially when that game is an indie title being made by a small studio.
Up until quite recently, the honour of being Steam’s most-wishlisted game went to The Day Before - an open-world MMO set in a post-apocalyptic, zombi- filled world. That game, however, has been mired in controversy of late, when news emerged that the studio behind it has been allowing unpaid volunteers to do a lot of the heavy lifting on its development. This followed the news that the game had already been delayed by nearly a year.
Who’s to say if these difficulties have resulted in it losing its top spot, but one thing we do know, is that there’s a new cat in town, and it’s absolutely purrrrfect. Please enjoy; Stray.
Stray lets you play as a cat, and follows the story of the moggy who must find its way home amid a gigantic city populated by robotic inhabitants. The game is being published by Annapurna Interactive (Outer Wilds, The Artful Escape, Neon White) and developed by BlueTwelve Studio, and our own Ewan Moore has already had a chance to check it out.

“Stray is shaping up to be one of the most interesting video games of 2022 - one that finally attempts the seemingly impossible task of working out what on Earth is going on in a cat’s head at any given moment.”
Indeed, it looks like a lot of Steam users would agree with Ewan. A month ago it had crept just inside the top 20 most-wishlisted games, now it’s sitting pretty at number one, like a triumphant feline perched atop its scratching post surveying its kingdom.
Luckily, we don’t have long to wait until we can get our paws on Stray, either. The game is set to release on Steam on July 19th as well as on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox One X.
