Skyrim player discovers handy gameplay trick 13 years on from launch

Neat trick

Sometimes a simple solution is right in front of you, but games like to give us so many options that we’ll usually find our way to deal with things, perhaps missing other tricks.

With Skyrim being such a large and long game, it’s understandable when these little tips or tricks pass you by.

How many times have you played and completed Skyrim?

One player discovered they could have been dealing with traps in a much safer way when recently playing the game.

Reporting their discovery on Reddit, this player realised you can trigger traps by shooting pressure plates or ropes with an arrow.

The clip they posted shows them firing an arrow at a pressure plate, triggering a spiked wall trap, which slams into an enemy, knocking them flying.

This prompted one user to comment, “It will never not be funny watching draugr get bashed across the room by a giant wall of spikes.”

“Been playing since 2013 or so. Never knew this. Awesome!” said one reply, which shows not everyone thinks to try these things.

It also highlighted that Skyrim is old now, and so are we. Thanks for that!

Occidentally20 mentions another solution, “You can also trigger traps by dropping or moving items around. VERY much fun is to be had by rolling wheels of cheese down a ramp to trigger a pressure plate or tripwire on an enemy.”

After watching the clip, one Redditor says, “I think it's bulls**t you didn't get a level in archery for that trick shot.”

It’s great to highlight these moments that round out a game’s mechanics and the world the creators developed.

It shows a lot of thought on Bethesda’s part, and that’s why players keep coming back to the game after so long.

So, next time you spot a trap in plenty of time, remember to trigger it from a distance.
