Technically, there is no Skate 4. As of this week, we now know that Skate 4 is actually simply titled Skate and what’s even better is that the game will officially be free-to-play.
The live-service title is set to launch on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC and will also support cross-play so you can play with your pals regardless of their console of choice. The thing is, free-to-play games still have to make money so naturally, fans assumed that Skate would contain loot boxes but developers soon confirmed that this would not be the case. Well, dataminers are now proving otherwise.
Check out Skate’s playtest trailer below which showcases a very, very early build of the game.
In a video update published this week, the Full Circle team confirmed that Skate wouldn't contain paid loot boxes, maps locked behind paywalls, paid gameplay advantages, nor any pay to win mechanics - which is exactly what fans were hoping to hear.

The problem is, dataminers are arguing the contrary. Reddit user PatFennis unearthed a page in the Skate beta called ‘Unlockables & Product Boxes.’ It looks like the product boxes will allow players to unlock clothing and customisation features. The developers didn’t exactly lie. They claimed that Skate wouldn’t contain paid loot boxes, and it looks like they will instead be obtained using unlockable in-game currency.
The product boxes datamined in the beta appear to cost 100 Taps. The page reads, “Earn Taps by exploring Fun City and completing FCCC Challenges. Exchange Taps for Product Boxes in the Main Menu Store. Each Product Box you open will have a random unlockable item inside.
It’s yet to be seen if Taps will simply be unlocked in-game or if players will also have the option to purchase the currency. As with any leak, this all has to be taken with a pinch of salt until anything is confirmed by Full Circle but it certainly sounds plausible.
