The scariest horror game ever made (apparently) is getting a VR port, and oh my God! We’re not ready for this!
You can ask any horror fan, and each will give you their favourite video game, movie or book. At the end of the day, what others may find scary, could be comedy gold for others. However, in October 2022, a scientific study revealed that the scariest video game ever is MADiSON from Bloodious Games.
Check out the trailer for the VR version here - if you dare:
MADiSON had beaten the likes of Alien: Isolation, Visage, Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 and Outlast 2. The study determined the scariest games by monitoring players' heart rates while engaging with said games.
Advert
The study discovered heart rates while playing MADiSON averaged 97 beats per minute, which is 32 bpm above the resting heart rate of those participating. What’s more, the game reached its highest peak of 131 bpm.
It’s probably no coincidence that all five entrants that topped the scariest games list were all in a first-person perspective. After all, that perspective quite literally puts you closer to the action or in this instance, closer to the horror. Well, that horrifying perspective is about to intensify further, as MADiSON will soon be playable in VR. Lovely!
Like many FPS horror games post-2014, MADiSON is perhaps inspired by the likes of P.T. However, in MADiSON, players will connect with the other world and solve puzzles thanks to a mysterious camera. For many, this gameplay aspect might bring forth fond memories of Koei Tecmo's supernatural horror, Fatal Project Zero (Fatal Frame).
No release date has been announced for the MADiSON port as of yet. However, we do know that it will be released for VR headsets on PC as well as the PlayStation VR2. Hopefully, MADiSON VR’s release date will be announced in the coming weeks or months.
