E3 might have been a total bust this year given that, y’know, it didn’t happen, but the past couple of weeks’ various not-E3 presentations have brought some pretty fantastic announcements regardless. Sunday’s No Man’s Skyrim… sorry, I mean Starfield gameplay was a highlight for many, and the confirmation of the Resident Evil 4 Remake from PlayStation’s State of Play at the start of the month was also really well received.
Of course, we’d been hearing rumours about the remake for months now, so Resident Evil fans have been hyped up about the potential of it for some time. Now, just in case they weren’t being well-fed enough, Capcom have announced a huge DLC expansion for Resident Evil Village via the PlayStation blog, and there’s lots to be excited about.
Check out the trailer for the new DLC right here, although be warned that there might be some spoilers for the main story if you haven't finished it yet.
Dubbed the Winters’ Expansion, the DLC is composed of three different parts. The first is the addition of a third-person mode, which will allow you to play through the entire main story of Village from a totally new perspective. Presumably, this means that we’ll actually be able to see Ethan’s face for once, although Capcom have sneakily avoided showing us that in all the screenshots and footage of the mode shown so far. There’s also a whole new story expansion called Shadows of Rose, which, without getting into any spoilers if you haven’t played the full game yet, is set 16 years after the original story.

But the thing you’re all here for from the headline, I’m sure, is playable Lady Dimitrescu. The nine-foot tall vampire goddess will be joining Chris Redfield and Karl Heisenberg in The Mercenaries Additional Orders. The arcade mode is also getting new stages, so there’ll be plenty to stick your teeth into and enemies to step on.
The Winters’ Expansion will be releasing on 28 October 2022, alongside the bonus content Resident Evil Re : Verse. It’s a very good time to be a Resident Evil fan.
