According to a new leak, the last Resident Evil game you would have expected to get a remaster is, indeed, getting remastered.
Thank you in advance to Video Game Chronicle's Chris Scullion for the original source on this one!
A new listing on the ESRB website just went live for… an Xbox Series S/X version of Resident Evil 6.

Now in case you’re unaware of how the Entertainment Software Rating Board works, this means there is a 99.99% chance that some kind of new version of Resident Evil 6 is about to drop.
The ESRB needs a finished product to assign a rating to, so it all but confirms that we’ll be hearing some kind of RE6-related news in the coming days.
In short, there’s no way this doesn’t actually exist… and Resident Evil fans are, apparently, not happy about that.
On Video Game Chronicle’s Tweet regarding the news, it’s actually pretty difficult to find a positive comment about a potential RE6 remaster.

“Why? Is there something wrong with the PS4/XBOne version?” replied user @cbw86.
“They could port classic Resi 1/2/3 to modern consoles but instead we're getting Resi 6 again,” commented user @Escaflowne2001.
I’m personally in two minds about this whole thing.
If it is a remaster, and not a remake, then I’m not really sure what the point of it is.

Whether you love or hate Resident Evil 6, I think it’s fair to say that some graphical improvements aren’t going to do much to improve the game.
A remake, however… now that’s something I could get behind.
RE6 was a pretty big swing and a pretty big miss, but there’s still a lot to love about it. It’s goofy in a fun way, and the co-op campaign was genuinely just good fun to play through with a friend.
If a remake could potentially fix some of the issues the original game had, while retaining the sillier elements, I think it would be worth it.

After all, why remake games that are already good, when you could remake a bad game and turn it into something good instead?
