In six days, it’ll be Red Dead Redemption 2’s fourth birthday, and while that’s not really all that long in the scale of the Earth and the universe, it’s been sufficiently long enough for gamers to start drumming their fingers and hope for new content.
Rockstar have confirmed that they’re basically done with Red Dead Online. In July, it was revealed that there are no plans to add any big content updates - there’ll apparently be some seasonal events and updates to existing modes, but that’s about it. As such, fans have been left with two wishes - a new game, or DLC.

Obviously, everyone wants Red Dead Redemption 3, and although we basically know that is going to happen at some point, it’s certainly nowhere to be seen for now (and I’m sure we can all agree that giving Rockstar more time to focus on GTA VI can’t be a bad thing). So, the natural conclusion is to jump to DLC, and as Screen Rant reports, fans are now invested in a really interesting idea.

Over on the Red Dead Redemption subreddit, user Proposterum suggested the idea of The War of the Worlds themed story DLC. The novel of the same name, which saw Martian aliens invading Earth, was published in 1898 - just a year before the events of RDR2 take place. As such, adding an expansion which would see Arthur Morgan taking on extraterrestrial enemies isn’t the biggest stretch in the world, and others are loving the concept.
“Man I would love to see a game of cowboys and aliens. It’s just the smartest thing I’ve ever heard,” wrote MattTheBast. “As a fan of War of the Worlds and Red Dead I too have thought about this and it would be awesome!” commented roqui15. “Having just read this book (and being kinda bored by it) I do think it'd be a very cool DLC! It would make for an awesome setting I think, given the distance between the towns in RDR2 and the vast 'wilderness' between them - kinda similar to how it was in the book. I'd love it,” added kiwitree101.
