GTA 6 be damned, Red Dead Redemption fans are finally getting new, official DLC

Despite seemingly abandoning Red Dead Online back in 2022, a recently released trailer hints at a full-on revival of the multiplayer mode as well as fuelling rumours of a next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2 itself.

Over the years, Rockstar has provided various small patches and recurring events with regards to Red Dead Online but since its last content trailer was released way back in 2021, the studio has left the game behind and we can assume this is to do with needing to focus on Grand Theft Auto VI.

However, much to the shock of fans, earlier this week saw Rockstar release a brand-new trailer for Red Dead Online’s new Strange Tales of the West update.

This new update will feature four new missions and a whole lot more, and is the first time in many years that brand-new content has been added to the game.

“Author Theodore Levin can’t believe the rumours and missives he’s been receiving from the four corners of the American frontier,” the Strange Tales of the West synopsis reads.

“He’s working on an anthology of these unexplained and weird phenomena and he needs your help investigating the wildest claims that cross his desk. Strange Tales of the West will require steely resolve and courage in the face of the odd, twisted, and downright supernatural,” it continues.

“Embark upon these four new Telegram Missions by picking up Mr. Levin’s letter at any Post Office or from your Camp’s Lockbox, then opening it via your Satchel or launching Telegram Missions from your Player Menu.”

According to Rockstar insider videotechuk_ on Twitter, a new zombie “infected” mode is being added as part of this new update.

Of course, this addition has some fans wondering if an Undead Nightmare-esque expansion will be added to Red Dead Redemption 2 in the near future or failing that, if a next-gen port is on the cards.

With Rockstar hard at work on putting the finishing touches to GTA VI, it remains to be seen how much attention they will show to Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online.

However, the Strange Tales of the West update is definitely enough to keep fans happy in the meantime. This is the most alive the game has felt in years.
